Evaluation question 1:In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

We believe that our music video is effective as we have study the convention of music videos.  Having watched  “100 best music videos” by channel 4 and looking into what makes a music video good we believe we have followed enough of the conventions to create a good product. The convention s of out. The conventions for a good music video include, good lip-syncing.

Lip-syncing makes the whole of the singing in the video believable; having the audio slightly out of sync throws off the viewer and can make the video unwatchable.

Costume
Good costumes make the singer in the video interesting and appealing and can influence the viewers opinion of the artists , for example in Christina Aguilera video for “Dirrty” she changed her image from being a known as a nice and friendly performer, having previously been on Disney’s Mickey mouse club form becoming known as Adult and serious. We believe that the costumes that we chose to use in our video fit well with the genre of music and fit the character well too.

Lighting
Lighting is an important aspect of a video when used effectively. However our video didn’t really focus on it as a main aspect of the video. We believe that out video is well light but it doesn’t really for further.  A music video that does use lighting as an aspect is Ed Sheeran’s music video for “ you need me I don’t need you”, which was directed by Emil Nava and features a man singing the lyrics to the video with his hand. This video is effective as it has a spotlight that’s on the singer where as the rest of the setting is pitch black. This draws attention the singers face and emotion and his signing.

Locations
Locations for our video were based around the songs lyrics. As the song talks about the do’s and don’ts of everyday life we found that our video should reflect this. Our locations may be simplistic but we felt this is what best suited the songs lyrics and meaning. For our locations we filmed at local parks and buildings in our area.

Editing
Originally our idea for the how the music video was set out was to have jump cuts showing of each scenario that was listed in our song. This idea was later changed as it proved to be difficult find willing participants to feature in the video. We also believed that the jump cuts may not allow us to show as much lip syncing as possible.

We later decide to have compromise of what we wanted, and we added a mixture of the scenarios and  different sides of the artist signing the lyrics. This allowed us to fill the music video with interesting shots based on the lyric but also gave us the chance to make the lip syncing better for the video.

To make the video go along with the fast tempo of the song we tried to make the cuts as short as possible and added a number of transitions and effects to keep the viewer interested.

Evaluation question 2:How Effective Is The Combination Of Your Main Product And Ancillary Texts.

Evaluation questions 3:What have you learned from your audience feedback?

The audience feedback was a big part of the production process. It would let us know what people liked seeing and give us a sense of direction when making our music video. There were three main resources to our research in trying to find out about what would be popular.

The first resource was Survey monkey. Survey monkey allowed us a quick and easy way to make a survey and and share it with people. In the begging of this project we wanted to know what type of music people liked and if a music video would encourage them to buy a an album. We also asked what their favorite music video was, this allowed us to Incorporate familiar themes in to our own music video. We sent the survey out to a few friends on facebook and found that Indie and Rock music showed to be the most popular.

The second resource was a vox pop. The vox pop served a similar purpose to the survey, however we wanted to find out through what medium people watched music videos. Our replies told us that Youtube was one of the most popular video sharing sites that artists would post music videos to

the third resource was to see the effectiveness of our product and what people thought of it.When filming was done we posted our video on facebook and showed people a list of words they thought would describe what they thought of our video. Using the results we got we put those words in to Wordle to make a word cloud.

Evaluation question 4:How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

Dafont.com

When creating our album covers we needed to find suitable and relevant fonts for the theme we were trying to achieve. We did not feel that the fonts that were pre installed to use for photoshop were suitable for what we wanted.

Da font is website that offers hundreds of premium and free to use fonts. We used the site to get the fonts for the digi pack and magazine advert

Contingency plan

Magazine cover

I wanted our magazine cover to be different from our previous albums designs. The purpose of the magazine ad was meant to show off the artists and show them to be good and successful, like the music video is. For the design i wanted to show off the artist to the readers as a serious artist, which is why the  I chose to make the photo black and white. I believe this lets people see and know the artist without distraction form of other graphics. Also the monotone colour lets the viewer of the focus on the artists face making it more memorable.

The original image was a close up of the singers face(Jack). My plan was to cut out and leave half of his face showing. With only half of his face showing and to the side, this would leave room for text in the ad.
Leaving half of jacks face leaves alot of rooms for other information, but still allows for the artists face to be shown in a subtle non avassive manor.

The style we are using is similar to adele's album cover for her album "Rolling in the deep" . The features a black and white theme that is

Filming(coca cola and nestle scene)

"Thou shall not buy coca cola products"
These are the lyrics to the song that were in the scene. For this scene we thought it was important to obviously  have the drink and chocolate that are featured in the lyrics. another aspect of the video that was important was to capture the humor in it. Having the correct facial expressions was a must for this scene to go well. im gay!!!

Digi pack design 2

The second album cover idea comes from using everyday objects. Due to the song being a song about the every day action and events that take place in life. We chose to use a keyboard for a few reasons, these reasons are that we believe that a keyboard can sum up a large presented of the outlook of the climate of civilisation. There is a fixation on media and modern technologies which always raises interest with a large number of age groups, form urban youth to adults. The song is also somewhat oriented to this technological topic. The songs genre is a techno hip-hop song, with the beat and and rhythm of the song going along to a electronic synth with a various numbers of bleep and bloops.

The layout for the cover is the title of the main song

Digi pack design

I have started to work on a number of ideas that could be used for our digi pack. My group mate and I discussed the theme and atmosphere of the song. we came to several desitions about the song and how the album cover could look. Our first idea for the song was about the lyrics and meaning of the song.  we though about a biblical theme for the cover, featuring either the stone tablets like the 10 commandment or an apocalyptic theme.

our second idea for the cover was completely different, we wanted to make something that would be more stylish and sleek, something that would catch someone's attention. We came up with the idea that body parts are something that would give us this attention grabbing effects. The brain is programmed to look out for other people to be able to tell them out from predators, which is why we though it would be great as an eye catching cover

This one of the possible covers that I made. Going with what we previously discussed we thought that they eye would suffice as a good body part to use. It is definitely something that the brain catches on to. We added a turquoise hue and edited the eye to make it more noticeable from the filter.

a slight variation on the original cover. I tried to make the cover more animated and cartoon like.

Filming part 2

The rain in the past few days has made it difficult to film outdoors. We have started to film in different locations for the time being and are trying to use a tracking shot of out singer/actor based on the instructional videos that we have watched on youtube. so far we have filmed the initial scene that we need.
